Artist Biography

Born in Paris, France, to a diplomat father
and a very artistic mother, Van was immersed
from the beginning in two cultures. East meets
West!

Van spent her early childhood in Saigon
(South Vietnam) before returning to Paris to finish
her high school and professional education.
Van came to the United States in the ‘80’s to
further her dental studies at USC and ended up
remaining in Orange County for her love of the
beaches and tennis. Now with three cultures in
her -- French, Vietnamese, and American -- Old
World Meets New World!

Besides being a dentist, Van fostered her artistic
talents with the patience and encouragement of her
teacher, Mimi Sharon, from Newport Beach, CA.
Van has learned watercolors, collage, and mixed media since the mid ‘80’s.

As an artist, Van:
Exhibited with OC Artists in 2010,
Was awarded a fourth place in a juried show, curated by Mr. Jean Stern, Executive Director of the Irvine Museum in
California, and
Exhibited twice with “Bonjour Les Artists” organized by Orange County Accueil.
Her paintings are in private homes in Paris, Palm Desert, Laguna Beach, Tustin, and in her private dental practice in     Westminster, California.

Even when she’s not painting, she applies her artistry in her private dental practice to design smiles for her patients. Van loves being a Mom to her two daughters and practicing yoga.

Artist’s Statement

If you were asked, let’s say, by a person sitting next to you on an airplane or at a party, “What do you do?” don’t you think it’s much more fun and intriguing to be able to answer, “I am an Artist” rather than … “a Dentist!”?

Also, if you have to work all day with different shades of white in minuscule areas, with constant attention and focus, it’s very liberating and rejuvenating to play with colors, to be bold and spontaneous on a canvas!

That’s what I love to do when I paint. I also love vibrant colors and nature, especially the skies and the oceans.

From a trained watercolorist for many years, I have evolved into a more modern and abstract artist, trying to capture a fleeting moment in time with much more intensity, vibrancy, and speed with acrylic medium. I hope to convey the sensation of serenity, wonderment, or pure joy when one looks at a beach scene, a sunset, or even a stormy sky on one of those rare and beautiful cloudy days in Southern California. I hope to share the beauty of our world, to uplift your mood, and to connect with you. I will be very happy, even enchanted, if you “the viewer” can feel this through my art.

“In this life we cannot always do great things. But we can do small things with great love.”
